Update 10/28/02:
PROCRASTINATION
Came up with today's topic after noting that I've had this file open for four days now, intending to write something in it. I've got this bad habbit of procrastinating everything. I still haven't done my taxes for last year. I've never done them later than October before. Shit, I bought a house, too. I'm going to jail one of these days.
I have the new tags for my car, I just haven't put them on yet. I've been meaning to buy a new car, ever since the brakes failed on my current one (had it fixed, still paranoid). The dishwasher's emptied itself more than I have. I haven't vacuumed my bedroom carpet in months. My bathroom is in dire need of cleaning. My fence is still broken. There's no back to my chair. I still haven't reformatted the C drive on the downstairs computer. I haven't investigated this company that claims I owe them $900.
Well, there's a lot of shit I gotta do. It isn't going to be fun. I haven't even touched my master plan in a few weeks. Hell, I've even put off masturbating for the past few days as an inconvenience. I shower almost every day, though. If I don't shower, I get dandruff, so that's pretty good motivation. That's my problem. I'm not self-motivated. With a better memory and self-motivation, I could've taken over the world by now.
There's two bills on my to-do pile at home. I should pay those. It doesn't take much effort. I hope I remember they're there when I get home.
Update 10/21/02:
ZOMBIEVISION
I don't watch TV. I haven't watched TV at home in over 2 years. I watch movies, and I watch anime TV series, just not on TV. I don't have a problem with the programs on TV, although most of them are crap, it's just that watching the shows I do like is inconvenient.
You see, shows start at certain times. Once they've aired, you're probably not going to get another chance to see it for a long time. If you do fit your schedule to match that shows start time, you have to deal with commercials. You can kind of bypass both these obstacles with a VCR, but then it's not quite so high of quality, and you have to fast forward the commercials. Not terribly inconvenient, just more work than I'm willing to put forth (kind of ironic considering the effort I go through to get fansubs).
I'd pay money to be able to watch commercial-free television. It's not like it's a bad idea. HBO does it. Unfortunately, I can't just pay $10 a month to just get HBO. I have to pay like $50/month for basic cable, then put the "premium" channels on top of that. More channels should be commercial-free, and I want to only pay for the channels I want. There's too many channels out there, and I don't want to support most of them. As a result, I don't support any of them.
I hate commercials. But I also don't want to fit my schedule to when something's on. After watching DVDs and high-quality fansubs all this time, I can't go back to VCR, so that's not an option as far as I'm concerned. I guess there's Tivo. Seems the industry hates Tivo, because of the commercial-removal. Well, somewhere down the line they're going to have to come up with a compromise, because there are more and more people giving up on television.
I also hate bad movies, and there's so many of them made. Some of them even make extraordinary amounts of money, considering they suck. And yet, Spirited Away is only playing in about 15 theaters.
Update 10/18/02:
WHERE DID ALL MY MONEY GO?
I've got this policy about not spending money. For the longest time, stuff kept happening that cost me lots of money. Car breakdowns, air conditioner repairs, fence repairs, something always happens. So I wouldn't spend money because I knew it was all going to go into repairing something.
Last night I went shopping for new clothes. After the sixth store I entered, I finally found a brown, button-down shirt. Brown shirts seem scarce. Then I stopped by EB and picked up a copy of Battlefield 1942. When I took it home, I ended up playing a game of Warcraft 3 and Magic Online (I hate that game) before even installing it. After installation, I realized I needed the patch to play online. While waiting for the patch to download, I revisted the Neverwinter Nights website, just to see if any interesting modules or patches had been released. Apparently there were positives on both of those. Now I was considering reinstalling Neverwinter Nights and starting that up again. I also noted that Icewind Dale 2 is out. Never having finished the first one, I was thinking about reinstalling that as well.
The point of all this is that I didn't have to spend money on a new game when I could've gone back to all these games I already have but don't play that much. Well, at least it's a different genre. I think people are too willing to spend money on stuff they don't need.
I should make an RTS module for Neverwinter Nights. I could do it. I wonder if there's team flags.
Update 10/14/02:
CONVENTIONS. YAY!
I attended the Anime USA convention over the weekend. Took Friday off work to go. Of course, I slept in Friday, because I didn't want to walk around the hotel in a daze. A wise choice, indeed.
The thing I like about Anime USA is that it's a smaller convention, and knowing that, it's arranged as a more social convention. I went to some panels, which is very unlike me to do, but mostly hung out in the con suite, which is a room designated for socializing and snacking. I really only go to these things to socialize. I rarely actually watch any anime at them anymore.
Yeah, I met a lot of interesting people. I mostly hung out with people I already know, but I did spend some time chilling with people I just met. I also bought a mouse pad for work, which I seem to have forgotten to bring in today now that I'm back at it (I'm so depressed). I bought a wall scroll of an almost-naked girl who resembles, but is not, Belldandy. It was close enough for me.
I didn't take any pictures. Jason took at least one picture, which was of a girl dressed as the girl from Metropolis, in my opinion the cutest costume there (mind you not cute as in puppies). There were some cool costumes there. I still have yet to wear one.
Anime conventions are always good fun. The big ones are fun because they're big. The small ones are fun because they're social and laid-back. This one was also nice because I was able to go home every night and eat a real dinner, sleep in my own bed, and not have to lug all my crap around. After the convention, several of us went out to dinner. It wasn't until the drive home that the depression of Monday started to set in.
Update 10/4/02:
UNDER PRESSURE
I recently went to the dentist because my lower right jaw was hurting. I woke up Monday morning, and for some reason, in my sleep, I was biting down real hard. Not on anything, mind you, although I have awoken several times to discover myself biting down very hard on my tongue. It usually bleeds when I do, as my teeth are jagged. This time there was nothing between them, but after that, my lower right jaw hurt. Felt like a toothache. It didn't go away within a day so I scheduled a dentist appointment.
The dentist said that it was the muscles, not the teeth, that were hurting, because of the biting down. Says this usually occurs when a person is under a lot of stress. Says I don't strike him as the kind of guy who would ever be under much stress, being as laid-back as I am, but my job is killer in that department. I might have to get one of those "night guard" things that you put in your mouth to keep your jaws from coming together. It would suck, but it still hurts today, and it's Friday.
I wonder how many cases of this there are in the military.
