Update 2/24/06: WHITEBOARD 03
Update 2/15/06: IT'S SOMEWHERE ELSE NOW

Katsucon is this weekend. It's actually in DC this time, not just advertised as such. The new location is a single hotel, and from the floormap, it shouldn't have anywhere near the problems of crowding and chairlessness that were experienced last year. I'm also under the impression that this hotel is not undergoing renovations like both hotels were last year. So, this year's Katsucon should be infinitely better than last year's. Hopefully I'll also be able to write a better, shorter report on it. More hopefully I'll be inspired to actually write a report about it (I've got serious motivation problems).

Travelling this year will be interesting, and most likely the worst part of the convention. Of course, for me, that's usually always the worst part of a convention (I hate travelling). You see, the hotel's actually in DC, which makes for all sorts of fun parking issues, but also there's limited and expensive parking at the hotel, which would dissuade most from parking there. Seeing as I don't plan to drive anywhere from the hotel during the convention, I figure I may as well take the metro in. The hotel's about 2 blocks away from a metro stop, so it's not too big of a trek. You know, so long as I don't get lost. Of course, getting lost in DC means walking around for 15 minutes, realizing you don't know where you are, then taking a very short and embarrassing taxi ride.

I'll let you know how it went in some form or another after the convention.

Update 2/5/06: WHITEBOARD 02
Update 2/3/06: WASABI

I rented this movie Wasabi after seeing a clip of it on google which I found when looking for that Budweiser commercial. You know, I see the still frames from the search results, one has a cute girl on it, I click on it to check it out. It turned out to be a hilarious action-comedy movie. It's a French film, but it mostly takes place in Japan. It's got a nice blend of French and Japanese comedy stylings. A far cry from realistic, however realism doesn't have much of a place in the genre, so it doesn't really matter. It's not a movie you watch for the story, but rather the character interactions. The movie only lulls right at the beginning, but after that it moves quite nicely. The movie is much more comedy than action. There is a bit of heartfelt sentiment, but they keep it to a minimum, only having enough to satisfy the plotline.

Overall, I highly recommend the movie. I watched it subtitled with the original French dialogue. I've heard that the English dub isn't all that great. Typical. I'll take their word for it.
